Late 60's?

Hey all, sorry I didn't post last week. I was out of town.

Suggested by: Tori suggested I do eras

In this outfit:
  • Green mini dress belonging to Tori. It will be up for sale soon, I believe. She will be selling it online.
  • Tights from Tori as well. She apparently never wore them, so I inherited them.
My thoughts:
  • It's quite short...
  • I was kinda uncomfortable lifting boxes over my head at work...
  • Otherwise it was pretty comfy.
  • I have no idea if this was even 60's ish. What did the 60's look like?
The response:

  • There were quite a few guesses as to what I was.
  • My boss guessed 50's country club.
  • A lady from the office upstairs said 60's go go girl (good guess! although originally she just thought it was because of the Seahawks).
  • Multiple guys from the office said I reminded them of Scooby Doo.
  • Coworker V was not impressed (but he's never impressed, so oh well).
  • A guy upstairs said he thought I was a leprechaun until he saw the tights, then he thought Peter Pan.
  • A friend on Facebook said retro Peter Pan as well
  • One person said I looked like a giant neon shamrock.
  • The lady down the hall loved the tights.

New Haircut

Sorry for the lack of posts, guys. I both have a horrible memory, and no self discipline whatsoever.

This item from my wardrobe isn't really something from my wardrobe. Well, it sorta is. My hair counts, right?

I cut my hair recently.

I went in for a trim, and then got to talking hairstyles with my grandma, and everything just kinda snowballed. It's pretty short now! I was lucky enough to be able to donate to locks of love as well, which takes hair (it must be at least a certain length) and makes wigs for people going through chemo.

It took some getting used to, and I wasn't sure if I liked it at first, but it has grown on me. Probably literally, I guess. It is hair, after all.

Besides, now I can look like Snow White if I want to.

Steampunk

Suggested by: Miriam

In this outfit:
  • Black boots from Goodwill (they are a little too big, but I got them for a costume a while back).
  • The brown vest is reversible, and I got it at a yard sale.
  • The white shirt I got in the men's section of a department store.
  • The hat I got from Amazon.com
  • The goggles are actually two solo cups and a whole bunch of other random materials that my brother put together. The goggles actually belong to him.
  • The armband belongs to my brother as well. He wore a steampunk outfit he made to Emerald City Comic Con.
  • I'm pretty sure I got the tie from my friend Amber, but I'm not positive.
My thoughts:
  • Nice and comfy.
  • These pants are a little to small.
  • The boots are slightly too big.
  • Ok. It's fairly comfy.
  • I like the way it looks, but I put this together so last minute, I wish I could have added more steampunk elements.
The response:

  • Coworker G was very confused about what my style was. He asked me if my outfit was from something.
  • Yet another coworker commented that my wardrobe must be enormous. I think this is the third person to say this.
  • Coworker C said he really liked the goggles.
  • Coworker V: "You remind me of Inspector Gadget"

1950s (Poodle Skirt)

Eras Suggested by: Tori

In this outfit:
  • Poodle skirt from my grandmother. My aunt's mother made it for her, but it never fit her, so I ended up with it.
  • I got the crenelin (underskirt) from an antique shop, and then my mom kinda remade part of it for me.
  • My mom made the shirt.
  • The belt belonged to my mom.
  • The shoes, socks and scarf all belong to my mom. She let me borrow them.
My thoughts:
  • I really like circle skirts. They make my waist look so small, and they make it fun to spin around.
  • Bright red lipstick is fantastic, and now everyone definitely knows which mug I used last Friday.
  • It's a fun outfit :)
The response:
  • Coworker G: "Cute!"
  • Coworker M: "You're going to need a walk in closet someday"
  • Coworker SK: "You've even got the shoes!" *starts pretending to dance*
  • Coworker SK after a little bit: "Laverne and Shirley!" *discussion starts over which one I look like. I'm completely confused because I have never met either of these people*
  • The food guy (who does theater) was so excited about the poodle shirt.
  • From the department down the hall that loves this style challenge I'm doing- "You're like Halloween every Friday!"

Gothic

Suggested by: Coworker S

In this outfit:
  • Lace shirt from a thrift store
  • Floor-length dress from a thrift store
  • Belt from my mom
  • Knee-high boots from a thrift store
  • Lots o' makeup
My thoughts:
  • I love the gothic style in general, it's a bit like "I'm a vampire"
  • This was fairly comfy
  • the eyeliner I own sucks!
  • my makeup was pretty awesome though, I did a gradient on my lips :)
  • I would like to own a black corset.
The response:

  • The department that loves all the outfits loved this one as well. They were also very interested in how I did my lipstick.
  • Coworker G kept saying the name of a character that I looked like whenever he walked past me.
  • Coworker C said "Very Gothic! Very... Anti-Elsa." and also "You know who you remind me of? Wednesday Addams."
  • Coworker S and I had a good laugh imagining me driving around in my sparkly blue Honda Fit with the Gothic getup on.

5/28/15

This week my style inspiration is Noel Fielding. Liz suggested
I do an obsession post about him as last week I watched non stop his comedy shows, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, a few episodes of The Mighty Boosh, and his comedy show Noel Fielding Luxury Comedy. To be honest these are in order from least weird and crazy seeming to most crazy. I also found a cool dressup game of him on deviantart while I was looking for photos so I thought I would link it here for you to also enjoy!

Dressup Noel Fielding Here!

I love his style because he can go from cool nice simple to absolutely crazy. He often varies between women's and men's clothing and everything he wears is magnificent. To be honest there is a ton I could say about him but a picture is worth a thousand words, and I've been looking for pictures all week for him. so here are a few for you to enjoy.

Style: 1940's (Mens)

Suggested by: Tori suggested I do eras.

In this outfit:
  • Pants from the men's section of a thrift store. I actually got them for a costume I did for Emerald City Comicon.
  • White button down shirt. Bought in the men's section from a normal clothing store.
  • Goldenrod suspenders tat Tori found for me at a thrift store.
  • An old man tie that I found at a thrift store. It's one of a few that I will actually be sending to a friend because he complained when I sent him a clip on (long story)... hopefully he doesn't read this...
  • A binder (binds your chest to make it flat, and makes it easier to wear suspenders in my opinion).
  • Fedora (Trilby, actually, but I don't own an actual fedora sadly).
  • Coat from an estate sale.

My thoughts:
  • These pants are super comfy, and also slightly too big. It's a good thing I'm wearing suspenders!
  • This tie has grown on me, it's just funky enough.
  • This is very similar to my normal style, with the suspenders and a tie. I dress pretty masculinely quite often.
  • I would like to own a wide brimmed fedora someday.

The response:

  • One coworker thought I was a Spy, another thought I was a professor.
  • My dad said I looked like a hit-man, and suggested I take my lunch to work in a violin case.
  • My dad also suggested I get a hobby.
  • And made a joke about my gender.
  • Thanks dad.
  • A lady from a different department in my building asked where I got the pants, and if I did the hemming on them myself. She seemed to really like the outfit.
  • An elderly lady from church said I dress up nice :)
  • My grandma did not like this style. (Ah well, you can't win them all)

Rainbow Dress

Happy Monday! Here's a quick look into my wardrobe.

I have quite a few items in my wardrobe that have been made by my mom. Usually, it starts with me finding fabric at our local Joann's Fabrics and looking with puppy dog eyes at my mom until she lets me get some. This is the point at which she asks me "what are you planning to make with that?" at which point I reply "No idea!"

My mom and I kinda have a habit of getting fabric without knowing what we are going to make exactly. We do that same thing with clothing patters though too, so it usually works out.

This dress was one of those sorts of projects. I found that fabric, and I knew I needed to do something with it... or, well, convince my mom to do something with it. And so a dress it became.

Closet Challenge

Happy Friday Everyone! Sorry this is so late, we had a thundershower, and my internet conked out.

Today's challenge has us all scrambling for our closets. The way this challenge works, is we each come up with a few different prompts for outfits to put together, and then pull stuff out that we have to fill that prompt.

The first prompt we got was "Half of a famous duo"

Tori went for a BBC Sherlock-esqu version of Watson, which is amusing, because I ended up going for a classic Holmes.
The next prompt was "Blue"

Tori tells me she debated dressing up as one of the guys from The Blue Man Group, but she didn't have enough paint.
Then we had "Red Carpet"

I thought about literally wearing a red carpet. Obviously we are both adults.

After that we dressed up as a "Fictional book character"

Tori was the sinister Professor Umbridge (From the Harry Potter series), and I was the childish Peter Pan.

The next prompt was "Cochella"

or, as Tori calls it, "White girl bohemian" which seems sorta insulting somehow...

Our last prompt was "something based on (at least part of) your name"

Tori took her middle name, Elaine, and decided to dress up like her grandmother of the same name. As for me, it took me foreeeeeever to find something to do. Finally, my mom suggested I dress like a lizard (since my name is Liz), so I did.

It was quite fun, and I think Tori won this round simply for the fact that she helped me out on some of my outfits. If anyone has any suggestions for more prompts, maybe we'll do this again sometime. Fell free to let us know if you have any favorite outfits in the comment below!

5/21/15

As the weather becomes nicer or in my case way to hot, the sun tends to blind you when you leave your home. So this week my style obsession is sunglasses. To be honest I have way to may pairs already but I love finding more and more to wear. Currently my favorite pairs of sunglasses are ones with round frames which give a cool sort of vintage hipster vibe. As I couldn't decide on one pair I've limited it down to three pairs for you.

My First pair is from Sammy-dress which is an online store. they are 'simply' calleStylish Round Full Frame Anti-UV Sunglasses For Women. I love the color of them and the metallic pieces on them. online they run for $7.80 not including shipping.*

My second pair id like to share with you come from a place called ZeroUV. I love these ones because of the eyelash embellishment that adds a fun flirty flair that adds to a nice basic black round sunglasses. they run online for $9.99 not including shipping.*

Lastly there is this pair of nice basic round sunglasses they are from Tillys and you can buy them in store or online. My favorite part about these are the color of the lenses that fade from a blue to a light pink. these would be nice in the evenings when it is still light out but not as bad as it was around noon. they run for $39.99 not including shipping if you buy them online.*

I hope you enjoy these sunglasses as well as I do. Thanks!
Tori

*Note*
If you you would like to purchase these you can do so here

Style: Grunge

Suggested by: Ashley

In this outfit:
  • Literally everything in this outfit belongs to Tori. She dresses like this normally.
  • No wait, the combat boots are mine. I got them from Target!
My thoughts:
  • I was afraid that this would not be work appropriate, but no one really seemed to mind.
  • It was super comfy.
  • The pants were comfortably loose, and the shall thing made me feel like I had a cape as I walked down the hall.
The response:

  • Coworker G: "...homeless girl?"
  • Coworker M: "I think there's a band that used to dress like that. I can think of the song, but I can't think of the band.
  • Different Department Head: "so cute!... I love those jeans... I would dress like that all the time if I could."
  • There was a whole department still raving about my bohemian style from the week before.

5/14/15

I was going to post something different today but as Liz was over at my place we were looking up things for her Monday post. I stumbled upon something that I am 100% obsessed with. I was going to buy them but sadly when i opened the page to find them on Etsy they had been sold all the way back in 2011. Before you say it, they are vintage doc martins so i cant find any that are the same and in my size sadly.

These are literally my favorite things ever and I'll probably keep looking for them till I find a pair for myself but until then I will share them with you. Now my style has two distinct genres one is a grunge I don't care kind of look and the other is a girly romantic style. Both hold true and never really mix. I am ether one or the other. When i see these shoes  I feel like I could wear them with both styles pretty easily.

Thanks!
Tori

Style: Bohemian (/Hippie)
Suggested by: Brie (And Tori)

In this outfit:
  • The skirt is one that I got from an art show. It's reversible, and can be worn almost any way you want!
  • the red top is actually a red dress that I got from a mall in the Seattle area.
  • I got the lace overshirt from my mom. It was kinda small in the arms for her.
  • the headband is a headband.
  • I'm wearing a Lia Sophia necklace. They have wonderful looking jewelry, I'd really suggest checking them out.

My thoughts:
  • I felt a little emotionally uncomfortable because I'm not a romantic dresser.
  • Physically, this outfit was super flowy and comfy.
  • The skirt was a little long for working in at some points.
  • the headband liked pushing my hair into my face which I did not appreciate.
  • I think the overall effect is cute. :)

The response:

  • The consensus in the office is that I looked like a Hippie... which I suppose has quite a bit of overlap, actually.

Friday, May 8, 2015

It's Friday! Which means it's time for a competition between Tori and Liz. Today's challenge was making a dress out of predetermined materials.*

The materials were as follows:
  • One black garbage sack
  • two plastic bags
  • duck-tape
  • packing tape
  • unlimited newspaper
*disclaimer: Tori was not a material.

We gave ourselves 3 min to plan a design (which ended up being too long, but ah well), and then took turns building dresses on one another.

Liz went first, building a dress on Tori.

She went for a shorter poofy skirt and simple top design with an accent of red from the garbage bag tie. (Tori was blindfolded so she couldn't watch and get any ideas for her dress... but yeah, the blindfold was pretty much pointless.)

Tori went next, building a dress on Liz.

She went for a longer more classic look, with the tulip skirt, and fitted top.

Both designs were quite different from our original sketches.

Tori thought we had more than one black plastic bag, so she had to alter how much black plastic she used, and my idea for the top ended up not working so it changed halfway through the building process, but I think they turned out quite well.

Do you have a favorite? leave a comment below and let us know!

My current fashion obsession isn't really a specific peice of clothing but rather a color that is very popular currently. From red carpet events, to a Disney movie, it has been seen all over the runways this past season and I am obsessed with it. This color is a nice clean simple trend that I think looks good on most everyone.

Lilly James (as Cinderella) in the 2015 adaptation of Cinderella

JEAN LOUIS SABAJI Couture Fall-Winter 2015

Fadwa Baalbaki spring 2015 couture

And last but not least Lupita Nyong'o at the Oscars 2014 clearly setting off this trend for 2015.

**sorry this post has been late i completely forgot to hit publish when i was done with it.

Style: Medieval
Suggested by: Raina

In this outfit:

  • Green velvet leggings from sales rack at Fred Meyers
  • Shirt from dad's closet for my tunic
  • Boots that belonged to my mom that she gave to me
  • Chain mail from Amazon. My dad ordered it in the hopes that it would fit him (it's a 3X), but it didn't, so I ended up with it :)

My thoughts:

  • The tunic and leggings are super comfy.
  • The shoes need better insoles. the bottoms of the shoes are wood, and I only had insoles in the heels. My feet stayed pretty comfy, but the insoles slid around a bit.
  • The chain mail is heavy after a while, and gets caught in my hair when I put it on. It also scratches up my arms and ears a bit if I take it on and off.

The response:

  • Coworker G: You look cute
  • Also Coworker G: You should get a sword and shield before you go fight a dragon!
  • Coworker S: I kind of imagine you have a whole theater wardrobe somewhere.
  • The lady down the hall at work: You look amazing today!
  • Coworker C: Your boots make me think of Star Wars.
  • Coworker B: You are entertaining, but a little eccentric.
  • Also Coworker B: I'm really surprised how not weird the dress part looks, actually. I mean, you say "hey look at that lady wearing chain mail", and it invokes some images, but you actually pull it off really well.
  • There's a whole department in my building that thought the chain mail and everything was great. They want me to come back every Friday to show off my various styles.
  • Grandma: Liz! You look so cute! I think you've really found a good style for yourself

My Watch

You see this totally awesome watch? This is a ten dollar watch. I know, right? It's pretty awesome.

Where I go it:
Quite a while ago, Tori and I walked around Fred Meyers with our friend Amber, and looked at all the sale racks, because we love sales, and what else are you going to do on a Friday night in a small town thats known for tumbleweeds and wine.

We found a couple of things. I found some leggings (which will make an appearance in tomorrow's post), and Amber found a shirt. We went and looked at the discounted jewelry as well, since Tori got her ears repierced recently and was adding to her earring collection.

I didn't even find this watch while we were over there. I was looking at earrings for Tori, and she saw it while walking over to where I was. She thought I would like it. I did.

I'm not great at reading analogue clocks, but it worked out well anyways, because I needed a new watch. I have a habit of somehow accidentally resetting the time on my watches while I'm wearing them.

The Game Plan

We have lots of plans for this blog. Both Tori and myself know that if we don't schedule out what we're going to do, it will never get done (we sent vlogs back and forth for a while via YouTube... That didn't last long), so here's the plan:

On Monday, we will give you a look into our wardrobes.
This might include photos from one of our amateure photo shoots, or a post talking about where we got something in our closet.

On Tuesday, expect an update from Liz on how her style experiment is going.
Liz has decided to try out a different style once a week (Goth, Punk, Bohemian, etc.) to see what the general reaction is to each, and to see if she finds anything she would like to incorporate into her wardrobe. These posts will probably include a picture of the style she wore during that week, how people reacted to that style, and any other information about said style that she gets sidetracked talking about.

Wednesday is going to be a break day, or a day for random posts about things.
We might decide to talk about social media's influence on fashion, or Liz's sudden selfie addiction. Who knows!

On Thursday, expect a post about Tori's weekly fashion obsession.
Tori likes lots of things, and she's going to let you know about it!

Tori and I will compete against one another in a series of tasks on Fridays.
We might try to recreate a picture, or we might draw an idea form a hat and both have to come up with an outfit to fit the criteria. The possibilities are endless.

We'll give you guys the weekend to cool off, and then do it all again on Monday. See you then!

Hello there my name is Tori.

I have been wearing clothing since I was a baby. I learned how to embroider at the age of 5 and started sewing at the age of 6. I began to experiment with my style in middle school. To say the least, most of my old pictures are very cringe worthy. The earliest pictures of myself I can find date back to 7th grade when it all started.
I went through quite the emo/grunge? phase in middle school even dying my hair black right before school let out in 8th grade.(Sadly I cant find a photo of said black hair. I assure you it was a thing.)
In high school me and my friends from middle school split up and I joined the marching band, my style evolving further into more colorful pieces and girly of styles. though I don't think anything I wore really matched until my Jr. year of high school

sophomore year
L
Jr. year
Sr. year

I've evolved a lot both style wise and with my sense of self and though I may be no expert of fashion or whats the new trend, I think I've found a style niche that is all my own.

Me a few weeks ago

I'm just here because Liz (my bff) said so and added me to this blog. I will be posting sometimes on flashback Fridays and with any fun fixations I'm having on Thursdays.

** i couldn't find any photos of me in my freshman year **
